The Benefits Of Working Out

There is something very satisfying about finishing your favourite workout session with flushed cheeks, a bit of a sweat on and the amazing feelings that come from having done a great workout.

The sensations and feelings we have after a tough workout or a nice stretch and relax session are not to be ignored.

Our bodies love an appropriate amount of movement.

These feelings after we have moved our body, are sometimes short term but provide benefits that really help to improve our general wellbeing. Exercise can help to reduce anxiety, stress, give your immune system a boost and I think importantly, improve our self confidence and self esteem. All of this combined really can contribute towards a positive outlook in all aspects of your life and that's a big reason why many, many years later I still love to exercise.

Your body doesn't know exactly what type of exercise you are doing, it just knows mechanically what it needs to do to make it happen! You get the mind and body benefits of being active, regardless of what you do.

The benefits of resistance training go far beyond the activation of the bigger muscles groups most people are aware of. Every time you do a workout you are also working the smaller muscles as well as your joints, your ligaments and tendons. Without tension from your muscles these parts of your body can stop working properly and ultimately can lead to pain in those areas.

Regular exercise can increase your endurance, power, strength, body awareness, co-ordination, balance, core strength and mobility all of which is especially beneficial as we age. As we age our bodies become resistant to growth, meaning it's harder to build and maintain the important muscle that keeps our body strong and healthy. The speed at which we can respond to hazards around us becomes slower and we are more prone to injury as a result. There is method in my madness giving you squat jumps and other plyometric exercises to maintain those reaction times and balance!

There is a compounding effect on our body when we regularly move. It doesn't matter whether it is a 15 minute intense workout, a long walk with your dog, or just getting up from your seat regularly if you have a sedentary job. It all adds up and your body benefits from all the activity you do.
