Are Your Resistance Training Results A Quantity or Quality Problem?

After coaching mostly women for the last 13 years, one thing I have noticed is that those women struggling to get their desired results usually have a QUALITY problem, not a QUANTITY problem.

  • I wouldn't add more sets, exercises or days to a training programme, first I would ensure that you are pushing yourself physically as close to failure as you can!
  • I wouldn't reduce their calories, first I would ensure you are A+ consistent with your current plan and that the quality of what you are eating will help you towards your goal.
  • I wouldn't add more cardio to speed up your results, I would help you understand why cardio is important to your health and that more cardio can increase hunger and if you don't eat more that can lead to overeating episodes more frequently.
MORE is not always better!

Running yourself into the ground with high volumes of training can still lead you to NOT get the results you want.

Most women need to understand that a good resistance training programme won't have 15 exercises and you don't need to train 7 days a week, in fact it's quite the opposite!

How Do You Maximise Quality Instead Of Increasing Quantity?

Intensity - Your training has to be closer to failure and your exercise selection needs to be refined to allow your intensity to be on point.

Nutrition - Ensure this is set up to fuel you properly for life and training. Now you need to focus on what you can add, more protein, more fibre, improve hydration.

Stress - If you are in a constant state of extreme stress, you need to understand that it's going to be harder to achieve body composition goals. You will have to look at ways to manage that stress and/or alter your training and nutrition to compensate for those periods in your life. A high stress life and a tough training and nutrition protocol is often a recipe for very poor results. I don't want you to waste your time.

When you understand that less is more where your training is concerned, you will be pleasantly surprised by the positive change in your results x
